BOTOX® Cosmetic
For many individuals, cosmetic concerns such as facial wrinkles can be addressed and improved with non-surgical approaches. One of those methods is BOTOX® Cosmetic, a popular option for achieving a more youthful appearance. Along with other non-surgical treatments, Dr. Kevin Day, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Brighter Day Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery, can utilize BOTOX® injections to produce natural-looking results tailored to each patient’s aesthetic goals.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable treatment that uses a form of botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles in certain areas. It is primarily designed to treat dynamic wrinkles that develop from repeated facial expressions, such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows. This treatment works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles and causing them to relax, which can ultimately make the overlying skin appear smoother. Administered through small injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be a quick, minimally invasive procedure with little to no downtime, often making it a favored choice for those seeking to enhance their appearance non-surgically.
What Are the Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic offers several benefits for individuals seeking aesthetic enhancement. Some top advantages include:
- Reduces Wrinkles: Smooths out lines and wrinkles, especially on the forehead, around the eyes, and between the brows.
- Preventative Care: Helps prevent the formation of new wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles.
- Minimal Downtime: Allows patients to immediately return to daily activities.
- Non-Surgical Treatment: Offers a non-invasive alternative to surgical procedures such as a lifted appearance to the brow without brow lift surgery.
- Temporary Effects: Provides a temporary effect, allowing flexibility in appearance management over time.

Who is a Candidate for BOTOX Cosmetic Injections?
Patients who are in good health without neurologic diseases or known sensitivities or allergies to BOTOX® Cosmetic can be suitable candidates for injection. Younger patients in their 20s and 30s who are just beginning to see signs of facial aging are often good candidates for preventative injections to avoid developing signs of facial aging over time. Patients in their 40s and 50s who have mild lines and creases in their forehead, brow, and around the eyes generally see the most profound results, rolling back the signs of facial aging by several to many years. Patients in their 60s and beyond, or younger patients who have established deeper lines and wrinkles with their face at rest, can see significant improvement but perhaps not complete correction and may require additional procedures to get the best results. This may include facial treatments, fillers, and even surgery.
How Are BOTOX® Cosmetic Injectables Administered?
BOTOX® injections are administered using a fine needle to introduce the solution directly into the facial muscles responsible for wrinkles. This procedure is known for being relatively quick—it is typically completed within 10 to 20 minutes. The targeted approach helps ensure that only specific muscles are relaxed, allowing natural facial expressions to be maintained. Before the injection, the area may be numbed with a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The exact number of injections usually depends on the area being treated and a patient’s specific aesthetic goals. In most cases, no downtime is required, which enables patients to resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.
How Long Do BOTOX® Cosmetic Results Last?
Results generally last between three to four months. The duration can vary based on several factors, including an individual’s facial muscle activity, the area treated, and the amount of product used. Over time, muscle contractions gradually return, leading to the reappearance of wrinkles. Regular maintenance treatments are often recommended to sustain the desired aesthetic effect. Some patients may notice that results last longer after multiple sessions as the muscles adapt to reduced movement.
How Much Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Cost?
The cost of BOTOX® injections can be influenced by factors such as the expertise of the injector and the amount of product needed. Typically, the price is charged per unit of BOTOX® Cosmetic used, with the total cost determined by the number of facial areas treated. After a consultation, a personalized treatment plan and quote will be provided.

Additional BOTOX® Cosmetic Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers?
BOTOX® Cosmetic works to paralyze muscles that move the face and result in lines and creases. Dermal fillers work by providing volume under a wrinkle to fill it out and smooth the skin, reducing or eliminating the visible shadowing caused by the crease. Other than a few limited exceptions, BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be used lower than the outer corners of the eyes, or “crow’s feet” lines, as muscles in the lower and midface are important for facial expression and interacting in the world. Lines and creases in the lower face are typically better treated with fillers, such as hyaluronic acid fillers like JUVÉDERM®, collagen builders like Sculptra®, and fat volume builders like Renuva® or autologous fat grafting.
Will I look “frozen” or unnatural after treatment?
When used properly by a professional formally trained in facial injections and facial plastic surgery, such as Dr. Day, you should not have a frozen or paralyzed look to your face. You may notice it can be harder to frown or scowl, but this tends to give you a brighter, happier look. Injections in the lower face, such as “lip flips” or injections around the mouth and cheeks, can often result in weakness that affects your smile, your ability to use a straw, or your overall facial movement, leading to a frozen or mask-like appearance.
What are the possible side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is simply a muscle paralyzer that is applied locally and in small concentrations to affect specific muscles. Temporary injection site pain and bruising are relatively frequent but can resolve quickly. Allergic reactions are very rare. BOTOX® Cosmetic can “drift” into adjacent, unintended muscles, occasionally resulting in less ideal outcomes, such as a droopy eyelid or a heavy brow. Results can vary patient-to-patient and specific results or appearances cannot always be guaranteed, but Dr. Day will listen to your concerns and if your goals might be better served with another product or surgery, he will let you know and can provide all available options to improve your look.
Can men benefit from BOTOX® Cosmetic injections?
Absolutely! The same signs of facial aging that occur in women can occur in men too. Men in particular can benefit from the brow lifting effect that is possible with properly injected BOTOX® Cosmetic, reversing the heavy, aged appearance that comes as one’s brow position drops with age. Men treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic often love the brighter, more rested appearance around their eyes. BOTOX® Cosmetic carries a very high satisfaction rate in men who have tried it.
